画面の上半分が嗅上皮で、下半分が上皮下の結合組織である。嗅上皮は、----
臭いを感知する感覚細胞（嗅細胞）と、これを支持する支持細胞とから---------
なる多列円柱上皮である。支持細胞は基底膜から自由表面までの上皮層------
の全高を占める丈の高い細胞で、その長楕円形の核は上皮層の上方、約1/4---
の高さに密に配列する。嗅細胞は核の周囲が膨らんだ双極神経細胞で、遠位---
の突起は自由表面に達し、微細な毛状突起（嗅毛）を出して終わり、近位の------
突起は神経線維（軸索）そのもので、基底膜を貫き、上皮下の結合組織の------
中で隣接のものと小繊維束を作り、脳の前下面にある嗅球に入って終わる。-----
嗅細胞の核は上皮層の下方約3/4の範囲に比較的疎に配列する。基底膜に接---
して円形に近い形の核を持った基底細胞が１列並んでいる。薄い基底膜の直下--
に接して密な毛細血管の網工が存在する。画面の下部の中央に２個の神経線維--
束があり、画面の左端にはボウマン腺の腺体と上皮層を貫く導管が見られる。---

The upper half of the field is occupied by the olfactory epithelium, and ----
he lower half, subepitheliar connective tissue, rich in dense meshwork ----
of capillary vessels, olfactory glands of Bowman, and unmyelinated nerve -
fiber bundles. The olfactory epithelium consists of olfactory sensory cells, -
supporting cells and basal cells. The supporting cells are tall cylindrical ---
cells and constitute the whole depth of the epithelium and their nuclei ----
are densely distributed at about 1/4 high from the surface. The olfactory -
sensory cells are bipolar nerve cells, whose distal process arrives at the --
surface and ends with fine processes, whereas the proximal process is ----
the olfactory nerve fiber itself and pierces the basement membrane and --
arrives at the olfactory bulb. The nuclei of the olfactory sensory cells are -
loosely distributed in the basal 3/4 of the epithelium. -------------------
